HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA
ORDINANCE NO. 2022-13
ORDINANCE RENAMING COUNTY ROAD 47 IN THE CITY AS CHANKAHDA TRAIL
THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH ORDAINS:
WHEREAS, on October 12, 2021, City Council approved a jurisdictional transfer of County Road
47 from Hennepin County to the City of Plymouth; and
WHEREAS, City Council directed staff to explore a public naming contest and over 1,200 names
were submitted with the overwhelming majority requesting a name that honors the Dakota; and
WHEREAS, Council directed staff to form a working group to research the area and develop
recommendations for a name that reflect the community; and
WHEREAS, the workgroup identified the goal of finding an appropriate Dakota name that is
relevant, easily pronounceable, honorable, and memorable. The group researched the area’s history,
went through the entire list of submissions provided by the public, translated over 100 potential names
as submitted by the public and did additional research for other names that were appropriate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH,
MINNESOTA that:
1. Chankahda Trail is the new name of County Road 47 within the City.
2. Effective Date. The effective date of this ordinance shall be following its passage and
publication as required by law, and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of
October 1, 2022.
ADOPTED by the City Council on this 16th day of August, 2022.
