COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Slavik, Councilmembers Murdock, Hewitt, Bildsoe, Stein, and Black (arrive at 6:11 p.m.). ABSENT: Councilmember Willis. STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Ahrens, Administrative Services Director Portner, Finance Manager Bursheim, and Deputy City Clerk Olson. Meetinis with Auditors At the request of the City Council, the city's auditors met with the City Council. Present at the meeting were Jackie Huegel and Aaron Nielson from MMKR & Co. The auditors gave an overview of the new "Statements on Auditing Standards" or SAS 112. Mr. Nielson reported that the new standards require them to report in writing to management and the governing body any control deficiencies, which they have previously done in prior years. It also requires them to meet with governing bodies to share information and give the governing body the opportunity to ask questions. Councilmember Bildsoe inquired about prior findings and the auditors responded that they are required to look at previous years during their audits. Mayor Slavik asked how much additional time will be needed to conduct the audit with the new requirements. Mr. Nielson replied that it would require about a 15-20% increase in time; however, this is better than what they are seeing with the private sector. Mr. Nielson asked who on the Council he should contact about critical findings and the Council felt it would be most appropriate for the Mayor to be contacted. Councilmember Bildsoe encouraged the auditors to contact them if they find other ways of making processes better. Mayor Slavik thanked the auditors for their time and felt the meeting was helpful to understanding the new auditing standards.
