R ESOLUTION N O. 2021-236
R ESOLUTION A SSUMING O PERATIONS OF THE P LYMOUTH H ISTORICAL S OCIETY
WHEREAS, Plymouth Historical Society is in the process of disbanding and wishes for the City of
Plymouth (“City”) to assume control over and operation of the Plymouth Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 471.93, the City is authorized to expend funds for the purposes
of “collecting, preserving, storing, housing, printing, publishing, distributing and exhibiting data and material
pertaining to the history of the city, for the purpose of commemorating the anniversary of any important and
outstanding event in such history, and to preserve such history data and material for future generations”; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interests of the members of the public for the
City to assume control over and operation of the Plymouth Historical Society in order to preserve and exhibit
historical information for future generations; and
WHEREAS the City is currently leasing property it owns at 3605 Fernbrook Lane, which houses the
old Town Hall and Carriage House buildings, (“Premises”) to the Plymouth Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, the Premises is a suitable location to use for the purposes of a historical society; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH,
MINNESOTA:
1) The City of Plymouth shall assume operation and full control of the Plymouth Historical Society
after the Plymouth Historical Society properly disbands and winds up in accordance with
Minnesota law and the requirements of the Minnesota Secretary of State for Minnesota Chapter
317A nonprofit corporations; and
2) The City Manager is directed to take all necessary and reasonable steps to facilitate the City
assuming operation of the Plymouth Historical Society, including terminating the lease with the
Plymouth Historical Society for the Premises.
ADOPTED by the City Council on this 24th day of August, 2021.
