HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2021-152 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2021-152 R ESOLUTION D ECLARING THE R ECONSTRUCTION OF C OUNTY R OAD 47 AS THE C ITY’S T OP L EGISLATIVE P RIORITY (ST220001) WHEREAS, the reconstruction of County Road 47 (from County Road 101 to County Road 61) has long been a priority for the City; and WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota has funded the reconstruction of regionally significant roadways across the State of Minnesota to better serve and protect the safety of the public; and WHEREAS, County Road 47 was constructed in the 1920s as a rural roadway designed to serve farm equipment and light traffic; and WHEREAS, the area around County Road 47 has developed and the roadway now serves an increased amount of vehicular traffic, bicyclists, and pedestrians; and WHEREAS, the current geography of the roadway includes sharp curves, hills, and limited sight distances which result in dangerous vehicles crashes and vehicles sliding off of the roadway; and WHEREAS, the roadway includes limited pedestrian and bicycle facilities which provide safe passage to parks and schools in the corridor; and WHEREAS, the City has completed a corridor study in partnership with Hennepin County to create a community vision for the corridor and identify long term safety and transportation needs; and WHEREAS, the City has undertaken preliminary design of the entire corridor and final design of the first phase of construction, and WHEREAS, the roadway provides a benefit to and supports the economic viability of the region and connects multiple cities and County facilities to state and regional corridors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA that the reconstruction of County Road 47 is declared as the City’s top legislative priority. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council supports the Capital Appropriations Request for 2022 in the amount of $20 million to the State of Minnesota for the County Road 47 Reconstruction. APPROVED by the City Council on this 25th day of May, 2021.
