Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity –
Plymouth Creek Center groundbreaking
City of Plymouth to officially break ground for project
that will renovate and expand the Plymouth Creek Center
When and Where: 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Ave. N.
What: Members of the media are invited to cover a groundbreaking ceremony at the Plymouth Creek Center.
Photo and interview opportunities will be available. The event will include brief comments, followed by the
groundbreaking ceremony to officially kick off the Plymouth Creek Center renovation and expansion. To keep
attendance limited due to COVID-19, we are not promoting this event to the general public. Attendees are
encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Why: The City of Plymouth is beginning a 2-year project that will renovate and expand the 20-year-old
Plymouth Creek Center so it is better able to meet the demands and changing needs of a growing community.
New amenities will include two full-size gymnasiums, a dedicated year-round indoor walking track, an indoor
playground, fitness/wellness studios, art rooms, a dance studio, party rooms and more.
The $49 million project will add 80,000 square feet to the existing 30,000 square-foot building. The Minnesota
State Legislature awarded $5 million in bonding funds to assist with the project.
The Plymouth Creek Center draws about 300,000 local and regional visitors annually.
Construction will be completed in phases (project dates are dependent on a number of factors).
•September 2020 to fall 2021 – Phase 1 construction (gym and fitness addition)
•October 2021 to fall 2022 – Phase 2 construction (existing building renovation and education addition)
Weather Note: In case of rain, the groundbreaking will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26. If you have questions
regarding the status of the event, call 763-509-5202.
