The following members were present: Mayor -Hi 1de, Councilmen Hunt, Nells. an'd-�p-aeth e following members were absent: Counci I Mn sel bo Councilman Spaeth introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 75-139 SUPPORTING PROPOSED LEGISLATION - ABSENTEE BALLOT BY ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEM WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth employs an electronic voting system for statewide and national elections, and WHEREAS, the current procedure upon receiving application for absentee ballot in communities using this system is to provide paper ballots to the voter, and WHEREAS, the manner in which these absentee ballots are currently processed in conjunction with the electronic voting system is a.matter of concern because of the pr!ential of human error created by the need to remake every absentee ballot under time -pressured circumstances on Election Day, and WHEREAS, H.F. 579 has been introduced in the State Legislature, which bill would amend State Statutes to allow for direct use of the electronic voting system for absentee ballots, provided that the system provides opportunities to the voter to change or retract any vote he/she has attempted to cast up to the time his/her entire vote has been completed, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH that the State Legislature be, and the same is hereby respectfully requested to approve H.F. 579 establishing the availability of an absentee ballot by electronic voting system; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the appropriate committees in the State Legislature, Secretary of State Growe, Attorney General Spannaus, the Hennepin County Auditor, and metro area communities presently employing the electronic voting system. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded by • Councilman Hunt , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following vole -3 in favor thereof: Mayor Hilde, Councilmen Hunt, Neils and Spaeth ane toliowing voted against or abstained: none Whereupon the Resolution was declared duly passea and adopted. tur e�+e t,R,t 9
