Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular' meeting of the City

RESOLUTION NO. 75-87
REQUESTING METROPOLITAN TRANSIT COMMISSION TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE
TO MEDICINE LAKE BUS LINES
WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth does not enjoy the benefit of Metropolitan Transit
Commission service within the City of Plymouth, and
WHEREAS, the Medicine Lake Bus Lines provides the only public transit service for
the'community with little or no support from the MTC, and
WHEREAS, all of the City of Plymouth is included within the Metropolitan Taxing
District and the property owners of the City in 1974 contributed property tax monies
in the approximate amount of $187,000 for the support of the Metropolitan Transit
Commission and in 1975 will contribute property tax monies amounting to approxi-
mately $331,000 for such service, and
WHEREAS, the MTC has the authority to assist private carriers in order that they
may continue to provide service to the public. and
WHEREAS, the MTC has a duly adopted written policy of (1) providing assistance to
the private carriers. (2) promoting ridership on the private carriers, and (3) assur-
ing the viability of private carriers, and
WHEREAS, the Medicine Lake Bus Lines as a private company is at an extreme disad-
vantage in seeking to compete with the publicly funded MTC,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESnl..VED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH
that this Council request the Metropolitan Transit Co*ission to provide a reasonable
level of financial assistance to the Medicine Lake Bus Lines by utilizing a portion
of.the property tax revenue it derives from the residents of Plymouth to subsidize
the operations of the Medicine Lake Bus Lines in order that they may provide transit
service comparable to other MTC operations, at fare rates comparable to that paid
by MTC users, plus a reasonable profit.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by
Councilman Hunt, and upon vote being take, thereon, the following voted in favor
thereof: Mayor Hilde, Councilmen Hunt, Neils, Seibold. The following voted against
or abstained: Councilman Spaeth. Whereupon the resolution was declared duly
passed and adopted.
