HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1974-089a CITY OF PLYMOUTH a Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota, was held on the 11th day of February, 1974. The following members were present: Mayor Hilde, Council- men Neils and Seibold. The following members were absent: Councilmen Hunt and Spaeth. Mayor Hilde introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 74-89 POLITICAL CAUSUSES TO BE HELD IN PLYMOUTH ON FEBRUARY 26, 1974 WHEREAS, our representative form of government is based upon the active participation and involvement of all citizens at the grass roots level in determining policy proposals and candidates who would be supported for elective office, and WHEREAS, precinct caucuses are held as a means of providing quali- fied voters an opportunity to express their desires in the selection of political parties' officers, the endorsement of candidates for various State and National offices and policy position, and WHEREAS, it is vital that our democratic institutions be supported by concerned citizens who are informed as to the candidates and the party policies, and such precinct caucuses afford the most direct and democratic means of achieving this objective, and WHEREAS, the precinct caucus provides the most direct input for the individual citizen in the selection of political candidates who will subsequently be running for elective office, and WHEREAS, the activities of the past year surrounding the Watergate affair have created a deep concern regarding the entire political process, thereby making it even more important for individual citizens to become involved in the political affairs which govern the destiny of our lives, as well as the future of our democratic institutions, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH that all qualified voters of Plymouth and those who rill be qualified by the next general election be encouraged to parti- cipate in the political causus of their choice to be held in Plymouth on Tuesday, February 26, 1974. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded by Councilman Seibold, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Hilde, Councilmen Neils and Seibold. The following voted against or abstained: None. Whereupon the Resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
