RESOLUTION NO. 73-44
WHEREAS, the Village of Plymouth has filed application for State
Assistance in the amount of $143,624 for the acquisition of 13.29 acres
on Medicine Lake subject to the conditions of Extra Session Laws of 1971
Chapter III, Section 48, Subdivision 7, Paragraph H. and
WHEREAS, the population of suburban Hennepin County is increasing
at an accelerating rate and, consequently, the availability of natural
areas and water access areas is decreasing at an increasing rate, and
WHEREAS, the provision of park and open space for an increasing
population is vitally important to the suburban Hennepin County well being,
and
WHEREAS, the greater the density of population, the more important
the acquisition of public open space becomes.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Council believes that the
acquisition by the Village of Plymouth of additional park land on Medicine
Lake will be of regional significance and that the proximity of the park
to suburban Hennepin County will make it readily accessible to a sub-
stantial proportion of the County population outside the Village, of Plymouth,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is found that the acquisition of
additional land to the Medicine Lake park by the Village of Plymouth meets
the County and Metropolitan Ceuncil Open Space Objective of providing more
regional recreation areas.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly
seconded by Councilman Seibold, and upon vote being taken thereon, the
following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Hilde, Councilmen Spaeth, Hunt,
