HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2020-027 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2020-027 R ESOLUTION A CCEPTING G RANT FROM M INNEAPOLIS F OUNDATION FOR 2020 C ENSUS E FFORTS WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Foundation is partnering with the Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership, which was formed in 2016 to prepare for the 2020 Census, to provide resources to assist with complete count efforts; and WHEREAS, the partnership notes that in a study to analyze the financial impact of Census data on states, the George Washington Institute of Public Policy determined that in 2016 alone, Minnesota received more than $15 billion through 55 federal spending programs guided by data derived from the 2010 Census; and WHEREAS, while high participation by Minnesotans in the 2010 Census resulted in Minnesota retaining all of its congressional representation, population shifts coupled with a low response rate in a 2020 Census threaten to cost Minnesota a congressional district; and WHEREAS, an accurate count is essential to maintain Minnesota's political representation as well as increase fair government funding through population based formula programs; and WHEREAS, the grant in the amount of $750 will be utilized by the City’s Census Complete Count Committee for public outreach events such as Discover Plymouth on April 18, 2020 at the Plymouth Creek Center. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA that the grant in the amount of $750 from the Minneapolis Foundation is accepted. APPROVED by the City Council on this 14th day of January, 2020.
