HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2019-328 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2019-328 R ESOLUTION APPROVING JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT WITH THE S TATE OF M INNESOTA FOR H OTEL F IRE C ODE I NSPECTIONS WHEREAS, in October 2018, the City moved fire inspections back to the Fire Department after many decades in Community Development. As part of this transition, proactive enforcement and inspections will be occurring across all of the city’s business and commercial occupancies using a combination of company inspections and dedicated inspectors; and WHEREAS, the State Fire Marshal has been performing hotel and motel fire code inspections in Plymouth for many years; and WHEREAS, Minnesota State Statute 229F.46 allows local governments to enter into an agreement to assume hotel and motel fire inspections within their jurisdictions. This allows the Fire Department to more effectively manage the expectations of the entire business community; and WHEREAS, the Plymouth Fire Chief/Fire Marshal and two fire inspectors attended the required training that allows the City to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement to assume fire inspections at the nine hotels in Plymouth; and WHEREAS, State Statute allows for the collection of fees for these inspections averaging $4,800 per year. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that the Joint Powers Agreement with the State of Minnesota to perform hotel and motel fire code inspections is approved and the Mayor and City Manager are authorized to sign said agreement. APPROVED by the City Council on this 10th day of December, 2019.
