Cole Hiniker, Multimodal Planning Manager, Metropolitan Council, will provide high level overview on the potential development of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor on Highway 55 which would serve the following cities; Medina, Plymouth, Golden Valley and Minneapolis. The City Council last discussed this issue on January 13, 2015. Bus rapid transit offers a similar experience to light rail, with off-board payment, platforms with more amenities, fewer stops and faster service. There are generally two types of BRT: Highway and Arterial. The Governor's proposed 2020 budget included funding ten new BRT lines. Mr. Hinkiker will provide additional background and information on the potential for BRT on the Hwy 55 corridor. The City Council will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss. 3.Budget Impact: There is no budget impact of this discussion. If BRT were to move forward, potential sources of funding include; Hennepin County, Metropolitan Council and MnDOT.
