List Leaders: Revenue for biggest Twin Cities homebuilders broke $2B mark in 2018
By Taryn Phaneuf
– Researcher, Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal
Sep 13, 2019, 6:00am CDT
Updated Sep 13, 2019, 9:03am EDT
Companies on the Business Journal’s List of Residential Homebuilders reported combined revenue of
$2.07 billion in 2018.
Revenue for those on the List increased by $201.9 million in one year. That’s the equivalent of adding
another company to the list the size of M/I Homes, a builder headquartered in Ohio and based locally in
Fridley, which ranked fourth this year. M/I Homes pulled permits for 478 single- and multifamily Twin
Cities units in 2018 and reported revenue of $200.5 million.
Annual revenue for top homebuilding firms in the Twin Cities metro area surpassed $2 billion after years
of growth. The number of units started has increased each year, as well, but at a slower rate.
Homebuilders started 4,395 single- and multifamily units in 2018 – 36 percent more than in 2015.
Revenue increased by about 43 percent (more than $600 million) over that time.
Company revenue and number of units started in 2018 came from the Builders Association of the Twin
Cities.
