Orders will be accepted through Wednesday, May 1. The sale features 10 varieties of trees, six shrubs and four fruit plants. Each year, city staff selects plants that are well-adapted to local growing conditions and resistant to pests and diseases. They serve as good replacements for ash trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer or invasive species, such as buckthorn. They also provide food and shelter for pollinators, butterflies and other wildlife. Most of the trees are 5-6 feet tall at the time of purchase. Some species come in pots, but most are bare-root, which means they do not have soil on the roots. Bare-root trees cost less, are easier to transport and have up to 200 percent more roots than the traditional balled and burlapped plants. They are also easy to plant. Tree and shrub orders will be available for pickup 3-6 p.m. Friday, May 10 and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11 at the Plymouth Maintenance Facility, 14900 23rd Ave. N. Leftover trees will be sold 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11 at the Maintenance Facility. Get Help Choosing the Right Plants Before placing an order online, residents can get help choosing the right trees, shrubs and fruit plants for their yard. Nuvaira Inc. By: Alex Wittenberg – Staff writer, Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal Feb 11, 2019, 10:11am CST Updated Feb 11, 2019, 3:11pm EST Nuvaira Inc. has raised $79 million in equity financing in a round led by Silicon Valley firm U.S. Venture Partners, the Plymouth medical-technology company announced Monday. Nuvaira, formerly Holaira Inc., develops technology to treat overactive nerves in the airways of people afflicted by lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which causes shortness of breath. The funding will support the latest round of trials (dubbed "Airflow-3") for the company's product, which treats COPD. It will also fund business expansion in European markets. Page 10 "We are thrilled to have such a strong consortium of top-tier investors in this financing, as a clear vote of confidence in our work," said Nuvaira CEO Dr. Dennis Wahr in a news release. Nuvaira in 2014 raised $42 million to support an earlier "sham" clinical trial, during which patients underwent an intentionally ineffective procedure in what amounts to a med-tech version of placebo pills in drug trials. "The rigor of the Airflow-2 trial has set a high standard for the field," said Dr. Frank Sciurba, professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and U.S. principal investigator of Nuvaira's Airflow-3 trial, in the release. "We are encouraged by the results of the Airflow-2 trial, and we see Targeted Lung Denervation (TLD) potentially filling an unmet need for our COPD patients who continue to have exacerbations while on maximal guideline-based pharmacologic therapy." In addition to U.S. Venture Partners, Geneva-based Endeavour Vision, Shanghai-based Qiming Venture Partners, Silicon Valley-based Lightstone Ventures, and Pittsburgh- based Richard King Mellon Foundation participated in the funding round. Also participating were each of Nuvaira's existing investors: •Silicon Valley-based Advanced Technology Ventures; •Eden Prairie-based Split Rock Partners; •San Francisco-based Versant Ventures; •Singapore-based Vertex Venture Holdings; •and New York-based Windham Venture Partners. Nuvaira also announced Monday the appointment of Lisa Rogan to senior vice president of market development. She joins Nuvaira from PneumRx, where she was a senior vice president. Page 11 Cool Offices: Wagner SprayTech creates community with new space By: Carrigan Miller – Staff writer, Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal 2/12/19 Wagner SprayTech must have known it had a problem with its Plymouth U.S. headquarters when it started costing the company employees. As Erica Larson, principal at Pope Architects, tells it, one Wagner hire quit their first day after they were given a tour of the space. "They [Wagner] knew what their problems were, but they didn't know what the solution was," Larson said. Pope suggested something bold. "'You should tear down part of your office,'" Larson remembered telling executives at Wagner. It was risky, she acknowledges, but she wasn't just saying it for shock value. "They didn't realize how inefficient it was," Larson said. Page 12 Swiss-based Wagner realized Larson was right. The old office was "un-inspirational and functionally outdated," said Greg McGuirk, president of Wagner SprayTech. The project cost around $10 million. It was a total facelift, and changed the inside and outside of the campus. The new office opened last summer. The most noticeable change is to the front of the building, where a large, yellow "Wagner" feature was attached. In the lobby, Wagner displays its products, including the Titan line of industrial equipment manufactured on-site. However, it's the cafeteria that's highlighted as the jewel of the renovation. Intended to unify the campus, it seats 75 people at a time, and serves the office and manufacturing divisions. Wagner has even subsidized food for some employees. It also built a fitness center with cardio, weights and yoga equipment and turned a nearby retention pond into Lake Wagner, an outdoor patio area. The campus is rounded out by three demonstration and innovation labs, which are used to showcase products for industrial buyers and Wagner team members visiting from other locations. "It's been a real motivation for our people," McGuirk said of the renovated Plymouth office. •Business: Paint applicator manufacturer •President: Greg McGuirk •Employees in the office: 200-plus •Address: 1770 Fernbrook Lane N, Plymouth •Office opened: June 2018 •Size: 60,000 square feet •Floors: Two •General contractor: Brent Marlow, JE Dunn Construction •Architect: Erica Larson, Pope Architects •Broker: Rachel Markos, Colliers Inernational Minneapolis St. Paul Page 13
